The teacher will introduce and explain the Word Splash activity. 3.  The students will complete a word web on their own paper using words from the instructional bulletin board.  During this activity the teacher will determine what the students know about "evolution". 4. The teacher will lead a discussion to address student prior knowledge and misconceptions of unit topic. |

| Warm Up: "What is a fossil?" "Are there different types of fossils?" | 1.  Warm Up 2.  The teacher will review results from Word Splash activity. 3.  The teacher will present a PowerPoint on Fossil Evidence of Changes Over Time. 4.  The students will take notes on the PowerPoint. 5. The students will create a summary of their notes to increase understanding. |

| Warm Up: "Which items in the natural world would make the best fossils?" "Which items would not make good fossils?" | 1.  Warm Up 2.  The teacher will introduce the Fossil Construction Lab. 3.  The students will follow lab sheet instructions to make fossils out of various materials. 4. The students will answer questions on lab sheet in order to explain their observations. | 
 
Thursday

| Warm Up: What categories would you use if you had to make a rubric that would be used to evaluate a group research project in a science class?" | 1.  Warm Up 2. The teacher will describe the Time Line Research Project. 3.  The students will investigate various Internet resources to discover the ancestors of specific animals or plants from the fossil record.  The students will write a brief description of each organism explaining its distinctive physical characteristics. 4.  The students will create a Time Line illustrating the appearance of each ancestral organism. 5. The students will create a rubric that will be used to evaluate the group project. | 
 
Friday
